When the Tennessee Valley Authority completed the Fort Loudoun Dam in 1943, a deep serpentine lake was formed along a 50-mile stretch of the Tennessee River west of the Great Smoky Mountains, surrounded by bucolic farmland, forest and rolling hills. Today, Fort Loudoun Lake provides a scenic backdrop for a magnificent new gated community set on more than 300 acres of waterfront land about 15 miles south of Knoxville. The Lowes Ferry master plan encompasses a total of 228 lakeside and inland homesites ranging from half an acre to two full acres, with tree-lined lanes, underground utilities, city water and sewer service and a generous amount of shared open space comprised of woodlands, open fields and nature trails. A private yacht club with a swimming pool, beach area and proposed marina will provide a venue for social and recreational activities, including direct access to boating and fishing on 14,600-acre Fort Loudoun Lake.
